D-Type Fire Extinguisher for Metal Fires
Metal fires present unique challenges to the suppression of fires. Water and foam are ineffective as fire extinguishing agents because, even at room temperature, many metals react violently with water. Metal fires cannot be put out with regular dry chemical powders. D-Type Fire Extinguishers for Metal Fires are available in two different weights, 4 kg and 6kg, and include dry powder based on chloride. D-Type Fire Extinguishers also have a squeeze grip type operating valve with a low pressure nozzle. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has developed, registered, and patented Ternary Eutectic Chloride, which is appropriate for class D fire risk materials such as light metals (Li, Na, K, Mg, etc.) and their alloys.
